Kucy, Krall & Kidd lead at Alberta Bantam Championships
Alberta Golf (Red Deer) – Round one is in the books at the Alberta Bantam Championship after a sunny but gusty day at River Bend Golf Club in Red Deer. Kye Krall of the Inglewood Golf & CC leads the Bantam Boys Championship after a 1 over round of 73.
McLennan Ross Alberta Tour’s Tour Championship winner Jayla Kucy of Camrose continued her solid play shooting a 7 over 79 to lead the Bantam Girls Championship.
In the Novice Boys Championship Tyler Kidd has a 5 shot lead after an impressive round of even par 72.
The final round starts at 8am Tuesday morning.
VIDEO: Alberta Golf partners with Junior Achievement for golf business camp
Alberta Golf (Calgary) – Alberta Golf has partnered with Junior Achievement Canada for a week long camp at Silver Springs Golf & Country Club.
The camp breaks down barriers and gets youth on a private golf course for an entire week to learn golf and business skills as well as learn the value of teamwork and working together with new found friends.
Junior Achievement has been active in Canada for 64 years and is the world’s largest charity teaching youth about business and personal finance.
Junior Achievement hopes to partner with more golf courses in the coming years across the country.

Smith & Kamenka win Ladies Team Classic in Canmore
Alberta Golf (Canmore) – 28 teams paired up Monday and Tuesday at the Canmore Golf & CC for a fun and competitive Rec Series event.
The weather was incredible for the Ladies Team Classic which saw the home course duo of Kelly Smith and Mary-Anne Kamenka take the title with back to back net rounds of 66.

Drive Chip & Putt winners get exciting Shaw Charity Classic opportunity
Alberta Golf (Calgary) – It was a gorgeous day for the Shaw Charity Classic Junior Drive, Chip & Putt event presented by West Island College. Over 70 boys and girls tested their skills at Golf Canada Calgary Centre.
The winners of each age group will get inside the ropes access during the final round of this year’s award winning Shaw Charity Classic to follow one of the final groups on Sunday September 1st. To top it all off, the Shaw Charity Classic champion will present the 4 winners their trophies in front of thousands of golf fans on the 18th hole at the conclusion of the event.
The winners of each age group at the Junior Drive, Chip & Putt were:
Girls 8-11, Justine leon – 38 pts
Girls 12-15, Jade Carter – 40 pts
Boys 8-11, Jalen Apedoe – 41 pts
Boys 12-15, Easton Hopkins – 39 pts

Alberta sweeps golf competition at Western Canada Summer Games
Alberta Golf (Swift Current) – The 2019 Western Canada Summer Games have wrapped up in Swift Current. Team Alberta swept all 4 golf categories with Albertans Cole Robert Bergheim and Jenna Bruggeman winning the male and female divisions while Team Alberta won both the male and female team competition.
Alberta finished 1st overall in the medal standings for all sports.

Alberta Golf (Swift Current) – Alberta leads the overall medal standings and the golf competition heading into the final round of golf and the final day of the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games in Swift Current.

Major move for Peter Major at Senior Mens Championship
Alberta Golf (Edmonton) – Peter Major of the Calgary Golf and Country Club started the second round of the Alberta Senior Mens Championship in a tie for 6th place but made a major move on Wednesday to take the lead heading into the final round. The 1989 Canadian Amateur Champion shot an even par round of 70 to post 1 over par for the tournament as the rest of the field went south in the late afternoon. Major’s 70 tied for the 2nd lowest round of the day at the Derrick Golf and Winter Club in Edmonton. Frank Van Dornick of Camrose shot the low round of 68 and sits 2 shots back.
Major has a 1 shot lead on Ken Griffith and Brian Laubman while 11 players are within 3 shots of the lead.
Griffith & Smith lead Senior Mens Championship after round one
Alberta Golf (Edmonton) – 2018 Team Alberta member Ken Griffith of the Red Deer Golf & CC and Howard Smith from the Cottonwood Golf & CC are co-leaders at the Alberta Senior Mens Championship after round 1. Griffith & Smith shot matching 2 under 68’s at The Derrick Golf & Winter Club on Tuesday for a one shot lead over Alan Ross.
Rob Gerwing of Stony plain had the shot of the day, getting an ace on the 16th hole.
Bob MacDermott is a double amputee who is one of the world’s most inspiring golfers.
The Edmonton resident is one of 120 competitors in this week’s Alberta Mens Senior Championship. He’s also preparing for the Canadian Amputee and Disabled National Open next month in Okotoks at the River’s Edge Golf Club. Bob says the sport of golf saved his life after a horrible series of events one day in 1987.
