ALBERTA GOLF ORDER OF MERIT POINT SYSTEM
The Provincial Orders of Merit are used to identify and give recognition to top performing amateur & junior golfers across Alberta who has achieved success in the golf season. The Provincial Orders of Merit are based on those tournaments that represent an extremely high standard of competition. A point system is used based on the scores and results of the players in the approved tournaments in order to objectively rank each individuals performance. The objective of the Orders of Merit is to provide a provincial comparison/ranking system for Alberta’s top junior/amateur players which will enable players to compare themselves to their counter parts across the country. The Order of Merit is also used to select Camp and Canada Games training participants
OOM ANNUAL REVIEW
Yearly, the Alberta Golf Provincial Player Development Committee reviews the relative weighting of tournament events and the points awarded to each tournament. The OOM is revised where necessary at that time (off-season/winter) for the following year.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the OOM, juniors must be amateur golfers as defined by the Rules of Golf of the RCGA, be a member in good standing of the Alberta Golf Association and play in at least one identified Alberta Golf Order of merit event each year.
Obviously, juniors are not able to play in each event identified on the point template because of time constraints, team eligibility, age eligibility events (e.g. Bantam championship) and other factors, but the relative weighting of the importance of the events may assist a player to choose one event over another because of its predetermined importance.
PROCESS FOR CALCULATING POINTS
The Alberta Golf office staff is responsible for calculating points for each player who has earned points. To find out what events are used and their point values, go to the "Order of Merit Point Chart" on the website. Each golfer can keep track of their own points if they wish from their finish at each event by using this OOM Point Chart.
OOM Result Spreadsheets are posted on the website and ranked from highest to lowest points. These spreadsheets are updated regularly throughout the season with the final update at the end of September.
MAXIMUM 12 EVENTS PER PLAYER
Alberta Junior Order of Merit Category Explanation
A Maximum of four (4) Category A events to count towards the Order of Merit
B Maximum of two (2) Category B events to count towards the Order of Merit.
C Maximum of three (3) Category C events to count towards the Order of Merit.
D Maximum of three (3) Category D events to count towards the Order of Merit.
A player may play in more than the maximum number of counting events for each category and only the best results will count.
To prevent a player from accumulating a distorted number of points due to the number of tournaments played, the associated costs incurred, and recognizing the need for scheduling breaks to avoid burnout; the total points recorded will count a maximum of 12 events in which the player earns the most points.
IMPORTANCE OF THE ORDER OF MERIT RESULTS
The OOM is an important way for Alberta Golf to recognize golfers for their past performance. The OOM is used for awards, intermediate and elite camp selections, and Future Legends and On-Going Coaching nominations.

Selection to the Alberta Team takes place in November of each year and is based on objective performance results (Order of Merit, RCGA and AGA) and behavior and etiquette which are reviewed by the AGA Player Development Selection Committee. These teams will be comprised of a small percentage of juvenile aged competitors to ensure consistency moving forward.

LEVEL 3 ZONE CAMPS
The Zone Level 3 Camps will be available to all other OOM point winners. An invitation may be extended to the next juniors on the OOM by the Zone Player Development Captain in order for them to join a zone camp in their respective zone.
LEVEL 1 AND 2 LOCAL CAMPS
These camps could be available to each junior golfer at individual golf courses in the province nearby where they live and are considered for beginning golfers or golfers getting ready for the golfing season. The OOM does not influence or determine involvement in any of these camps. Alberta Golf encourages all juniors to participate in these camps when they begin golfing to support their local club and their local professionals.
FUTURE LEGENDS AND ON-GOING COACHING PROGRAM
The Future Legends and On-Going Coaching programs provides funding for CPGA instruction for junior girls who are members of the Alberta Golf Association, show a keen desire to improve their golfing ability and participate in AG's camps and provincial events. Zone Junior Directors nominate girls in their zones to participate in these programs. The OOM results are also used to select girls for this program if nominations are not brought forward from the zones.
